Check before you pay
Check a used phone in Morocco: the 8 points
To check a used phone, follow this order: the IMEI read in the phone's settings, the iCloud or Google account signed out in front of you, then the 8 condition points.
The most honest figure on the device is battery health: the phone measures it itself and the seller cannot control it. A weak battery is not a deal-breaker, it is a cost to take off the price. And two signals together — a rushing seller, a flat battery on arrival, a price far below market — are enough to walk away.

Step 1
The order of checks is not a detail
Most buyers start with condition: they look at the screen, hunt for scratches, test the camera. That is exactly backwards. A scratched device can be negotiated; a device locked to someone else's account cannot be used at all, and no repair recovers it. Check what is irreversible before what is repairable.
- 1. Identity: does the IMEI shown by the phone match the advertised model?
- 2. Account: does the seller sign out of iCloud or Google in front of you?
- 3. Condition: the 8 points below, in the order a technician walks them.
- Payment comes after all three, never between two of them.
Step 2
The 8 points of the Damjitech protocol
These are the points a Damji technician ticks one by one during a diagnostic, grouped by area so nothing gets skipped. They are not a tidy list: they are exactly what appears on a verification certificate, and a fault on any one of them changes the grade the device receives.
- Screen and body — display, touch across the whole surface, chips, frame play.
- Cameras and sensors — front, rear, autofocus, proximity, auto-rotate.
- Audio and buttons — earpiece, speaker, mic, volume, sleep, silent switch.
- Charging and connectivity — port, heat, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, network, SIM.
Step 3
The one number that actually decides
On a used phone, battery health is the most honest figure the device holds: the phone measures it itself and the seller does not control it. At Damjitech, a device with no faults at all but a battery below 85% does not get the top grade — that is the threshold separating A+ from A in the verification scale.
- iPhone: Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging.
- Samsung: Settings > Battery and device care, or the Samsung Members app.
- Android generally: the figure is not always shown — a charge cycle watched on the spot beats a screenshot sent by message.
- A weak battery is not a deal-breaker: it is a cost to subtract from the price, not a surprise to discover later.
Step 4
The account that locks the device differs by brand
This is the costliest mistake on the second-hand market, because it is invisible. An iPhone is tied to iCloud. A Samsung can carry two accounts at once — Google and Samsung — and signing out of the first is not enough. Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco share the Mi account. A recent Huawei may not carry Google services at all, which changes the check entirely.
- Ask for a factory reset done in front of you, then the first boot.
- If the device restarts and asks for an account again, it is not free: it is locked.
- A seller offering to "do it at home and bring it back" is asking you to pay on trust.
- Every Damjitech brand page carries the exact procedure for that brand.
Step 5
What an honest seller always agrees to
You do not need to be an expert to sort sellers: propose three things and watch the reaction. A seller in good faith loses nothing by agreeing, and it takes under ten minutes.
- Powering the device on and opening settings themselves, in front of you.
- Letting you read the IMEI on screen and compare it to the listing.
- Signing out of the account on the spot rather than "later".
- Meeting in a public, well-lit place with network coverage and ideally a power socket.
Step 6
What your buying path covers — and what it does not
The checks above are your only protection in a face-to-face deal — and today every purchase on Damjitech is face to face. Damjitech does not handle shipping yet: if it is sent to you by courier, you pay without protection. Once protected purchase opens, Damjitech will hold the payment for 48 hours so you can check it matches the listing.
- Meeting in person: nothing covers you after payment. Everything is decided on the spot.
- Shipping with 48h Protected Purchase (not open yet): conformity to the listing, not a technical diagnostic. A dispute will open 48h to agree with the seller, then a Damjitech review.
- Verified by Damjitech (not open yet; paid by the buyer): full diagnostic by a professional before shipping, with the seal and the warranty.
- Closing the sale outside the flow cancels every protection.
Step 7
The six signals that end a purchase
None is proof on its own. Two together are enough to walk away: on the second-hand market walking away costs nothing, and being wrong costs the price of the device.
- The seller rushes you, mentions another buyer or a deadline.
- The device arrives flat, or "just needs to stay plugged in a while".
- Listing photos come from the internet, or never show the screen switched on.
- The price is far below market with no explanation.
- The seller refuses settings, refuses a public place, or switches payment method at the last moment.
- The IMEI shown does not match the advertised model.

FAQ
Common questions
How long does it take to check a second-hand phone?
Ten minutes covers the decisive checks: IMEI in settings, account sign-out, battery, screen, cameras, audio, charging and network. What takes time is not the testing — it is refusing to be rushed.
Is the IMEI enough to know a phone is safe?
No. The IMEI verifies the device's identity, not its condition or whether it is free. A perfectly consistent IMEI can belong to an account-locked phone with a worn battery and a replaced screen.
How do I know if a second-hand phone is stolen?
No on-the-spot test proves it completely, but several signals overlap: refusal to show settings, no invoice, an account that cannot be removed, an unusually low price, a rushing seller. The dedicated guide covers what to look at and what to do.
Is refurbished safer than buying from a private seller?
Only if the seller documents what was tested and replaced, and gives a written warranty. "Refurbished" is not a controlled label: without evidence it is second-hand with a more expensive name.
What if the seller refuses the tests?
Do not buy. A refusal to test is the most reliable information in the whole transaction, and it is free.
Should I pay cash or through the platform?
Face to face, payment happens only after every check. Today Damjitech does not handle shipping: paying before you receive it means paying without protection. Once protected purchase opens, the payment will be held for 48 hours while you confirm conformity.
